4 Dham Helicopter Package Overview

The Chardham Yatra takes pilgrims to four sacred sites in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand: Yamunotri (origin of the Yamuna River), Gangotri (dedicated to Goddess Ganga), Kedarnath (Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva), and Badrinath (Moksha Dham dedicated to Lord Vishnu). By helicopter, the full yatra is done in just 6 days — compared to 10–12 days by road. The package includes Kedarnath helicopter shuttles, verified near-temple stays, private SUV ground transfers, experienced on-ground staff, VIP Darshan assistance, and pure vegetarian meals.

Our Chardham operations and management team makes sure you get VIP, priority, and guided darshan to avoid long queues and crowds, and our crew is always present at every helipad to give the best assistance to all pilgrims — senior citizens, families, and those who have less time or want to avoid the long road journey. The Chardham Helicopter Package is the fastest and most comfortable way to complete all four Dhams in just 6 days, compared to a 10-day journey by road.

Weather Monitoring & Flight Safety

May – June: The weather in Gangotri & Yamunotri ranges from 10°C to 25°C. Kedarnath & Badrinath remain colder, with temperatures between 7°C and 18°C.

September - November: The weather starts turning cooler, especially in Kedarnath & Badrinath, where temperatures can drop to between 1°C and 20°C.

Rest of the year: All four temples remain closed due to rain, heavy snowfall and extremely low temperatures.

checked Flights operate only after real-time weather clearance from DGCA, UCADA & aviation authorities.

checked Weather is monitored continuously using IMD updates, helipad visibility reports, and local data from UCADA.

checked In case of poor visibility, strong winds, or sudden weather changes, flights may be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled — strictly in the interest of passenger safety.

checked No pressure flying — safety is always the top priority.

Helicopter Safety & Passenger Guidelines

Weather clearance and flight operations are coordinated under the joint supervision of Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA), Air Traffic Control (ATC/AAI), and the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with final legal authority resting with the Pilot-in-Command.

Passenger Safety Guidelines

  • Maximum 6 passengers per helicopter as per aviation norms.
  • Luggage limit is 5 kg per passenger (only soft bags allowed in charter — no hard suitcases).
  • Average body weight considered is 75 kg per passenger (overweight charges apply beyond this limit).
  • If total passenger weight exceeds limits, only 5 passengers may be allowed.
  • Maximum total payload allowed is 450 kg per helicopter.
  • Passengers with serious medical conditions must inform us in advance.

Emergency & Ground Safety Measures

  • Ground staff is present at all helipads for safe boarding and de-boarding.
  • Emergency response protocols are in place at all operational sectors.
  • Passengers are briefed about dos and don'ts before every flight.
  • Our pilot or captain will not operate flights in unsafe or bad weather conditions.
  • All safety measures are followed strictly for Char Dham helicopter tours.
  • Final boarding is subject to pilot approval and real-time weather clearance.
Health & Packing

High-Altitude Health & What to Pack

All four Dhams sit at a high altitude, so the air carries less oxygen than the plains. The good news is that the total walking on the helicopter tour is only about 800 metres to 1 km — mostly the stretch from Kedarnath helipad to the temple — which is manageable for most people. For anyone who cannot walk that distance, we provide a wheelchair on request.

The key is to walk at a steady pace and take proper breaks. Don't rush — stop, catch your breath, rest for a moment, and then continue. This simple habit prevents most breathing trouble at height.

Oxygen Support Provided

We carry a 12-litre oxygen cylinder that gives around 250 breaths/puffs, available if a passenger feels short of breath during the yatra. Our crew is always on hand to help.

Carry Your Own Medicines

If you have any breathing issue or an existing medical condition, please carry your regular medicines. Always keep them in your handbag — not in the checked duffle bag — so they stay within reach.

Eat Before Medicines

Always have breakfast before taking your medication. Keep energy bars, chocolate, or something sweet with you — this is especially important for diabetic passengers to keep sugar levels steady.

Planning the Mana Village & Vasundhara walk: At Badrinath, there is an optional trek near Mana Village towards the Saraswati origin, and a longer 2–3 km walk to Vasundhara Falls. These are not part of the fixed tour and are entirely optional. If you wish to do them, we suggest walking 2–3 km every day for a few weeks before your yatra to build your stamina. On the core tour itself, the walking stays within 800 m to 1 km.

What to Pack in Your 5 kg Bag

Only one soft duffle bag of up to 5 kg per passenger is allowed on the helicopter, and we hand you this bag on arrival. Pack light — here is what helps and what to leave behind.

✔ Carry These

  • One warm jacket or windcheater
  • 1–2 full-sleeve shirts or t-shirts
  • Track pants or thermal wear
  • Woollen cap, gloves, and muffler
  • Comfortable trekking or walking shoes
  • All your medicines, kept in your handbag
  • Energy bars, chocolate, or dry fruits
  • Original Aadhaar Card and yatra registration copy
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, and lip balm

✘ Avoid These

  • Hard suitcases or trolley bags
  • Heavy jewellery or large amounts of cash
  • Deodorant sprays or any flammable items
  • Heavy food items or big snack bags
  • Extra clothes beyond what you actually need

Our support: If you need any help with medication or feel unwell at any point, our crew is always available at every helipad and Dham to assist you with whatever is needed. Your safety and comfort come first.

4 Dham Yatra by Helicopter — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath & Badrinath

Chardham Yatra by helicopter 2026 covering Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath

The Chardham Yatra by helicopter is the fastest and most comfortable way to complete the Char Dham Darshan. As you fly over the Himalayan mountains, rivers, and valleys, you get breathtaking views along with a peaceful and fulfilling pilgrimage experience.

The aerial tour is an ideal option for devotees who want to complete all four Dhams without long treks or tiring road journeys. You visit Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath — the four shrines that hold great importance in Hinduism — with VIP Darshan and comfortable stays, making your journey both memorable and easy.

About Chardham

The Chardham Yatra covers all four main shrines of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath & Badrinath. In Hinduism it holds great importance for attaining moksha, so every year millions of pilgrims from India and overseas come to witness this traditional and divine yatra in sequence: Yamunotri (1st Dham) → Gangotri (2nd Dham) → Kedarnath (3rd Dham) → Badrinath (4th Dham).

By road the yatra takes 10–12 days, which is time-consuming and difficult for elderly travellers. But with the Chardham Yatra by helicopter package, all four shrines are covered in just 6 days — skipping long treks, 8–9 hour drives, and long queues. Each helipad is reached in a 30–45 minute ride, and the included VIP Darshan avoids long queues, making it the most comfortable option for senior citizens and every pilgrim seeking a smooth journey.

Yamunotri Dham during Chardham helicopter yatra

About Yamunotri Dham

Yamunotri Dham is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna and is considered the origin of the Yamuna River, situated at around 3,300 metres above sea level. It is the first Dham of the yatra. You fly from Dehradun to Kharsali Helipad, and from there the 6 km trek to Yamunotri Temple is covered by palki, pony, or on foot — all included in our tour.

Apart from the temple, you can visit the hot water spring where pilgrims take a holy dip, and Surya Kund. The temple opens on Akshaya Tritiya as per the Hindu calendar.

About Gangotri Dham

Gangotri, the second Dham, is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, and Gaumukh near Gangotri is the origin of the River Ganga. Gangotri sits at 3,100 metres above sea level. The flight from Kharsali to Harsil Helipad takes just 35 minutes.

From Harsil Helipad, Gangotri Temple is 25 km by road, which we cover in an Innova SUV or similar in about 45 minutes. The Harsil Valley is known as the Mini Switzerland of India. Gangotri also opens on Akshaya Tritiya and closes on Diwali.

Gangotri Dham during Chardham helicopter yatra
Kedarnath Dham during Chardham helicopter yatra

About Kedarnath Dham

Kedarnath Dham is the highest of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas, at a height of around 3,550 metres, and is one of the most revered Lord Shiva temples in Hinduism. Due to heavy snowfall, the temple stays open only from April to November.

On the tour we reach Sersi/Phata/Guptkashi Helipad from Jhalla near Harsil, then switch to the Kedarnath shuttle to reach Kedarnath Helipad — the temple is 800 metres on foot from there. VIP Darshan and Sankalp Pooja are included to make the trip memorable. If time allows, you can also visit Bheem Shila and the Bhairav Temple, which is a 1 km trek.

About Badrinath Dham

Badrinath Dham is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and sits at around 3,133 metres. It is the last and fourth Dham of the Chardham Yatra, located on the banks of the Alaknanda River. The temple stays open from April to November.

On the tour we also take you to Mana Village — the last Indian village near the China border — along with Vyas Gufa and Bheem Pul. If time allows, there is an easy 1.5 km trek up to the beautiful Vasundhara Falls.

Badrinath Dham during Chardham helicopter yatra

Chardham Yatra by Helicopter from Dehradun

All Chardham helicopter packages start from Dehradun, as it is the most convenient point for travellers to reach — you can fly directly to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, which has good connectivity from all over India compared to other places. For road packages, starting points like Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Delhi work fine, but for this short and fastest tour, Dehradun is the ideal choice.

Another reason is safety: the UCADA office is located just opposite the Sahastradhara Helipad, which makes it easier to monitor flight safety and passenger coordination closely. The tour can be customised to start from Rishikesh or another location, but the cost goes up significantly. So it is always better and more convenient to begin the yatra from Sahastradhara Helipad, Dehradun.

Sahastradhara Helipad is around 20 km from Jolly Grant Airport and about 14 km from Dehradun Railway Station.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Is Chardham helicopter booking done through IRCTC or a private operator?
Ans: The complete Chardham and Do Dham helicopter package is operated by private charter operators and booked directly through authorized tour operators — IRCTC is not involved in private charter services. Only the short Kedarnath shuttle (Phata/Sirsi to Kedarnath) is booked through the IRCTC portal after Char Dham registration, and this applies to all companies running private helicopter tours for Char Dham and Do Dham, as they hold a direct booking quota from UCADA. So if you choose to book a helicopter package, there is nothing to worry about — the Kedarnath shuttle is included and fully taken care of as part of the package.

Q2. How many days does the Char Dham Yatra by helicopter take compared to road packages?
Ans: The complete Char Dham Yatra by helicopter takes 5 Nights / 6 Days, compared to 10–12 days by road.

Q3. How much does a Chardham helicopter package cost in 2026?
Ans: A complete 4 Dham helicopter package in 2026 starts from ₹2,09,000 per person, including luxury stays, all meals, and VIP darshan. With other companies, the cost may vary by ₹5,000–₹10,000 depending on their services and hotels — so always verify the full details and inclusions before making any payment.

Q4. Which is the best time for the Char Dham helicopter yatra?
Ans: The best months are May–June and September–October, when the weather is relatively stable. Flights do not operate during the July–August monsoon due to heavy rain, or in winter due to fog.

Q5. Where does the Char Dham helicopter yatra start from?
Ans: All helicopter packages depart from Sahastradhara Helipad, Dehradun, with pickup and transfer assistance from Dehradun, Haridwar, and Rishikesh.

Q6. What documents are required for the Char Dham Yatra by helicopter?
Ans: Any government ID — Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, or Passport — is required, along with Char Dham Yatra registration. For infants, a birth certificate or the parents' Aadhaar card is needed.

Q7. What is the baggage weight limit for helicopter travel?
Ans: Only one soft bag of a maximum of 5 kg is allowed per passenger. Hard suitcases and trolley bags are not permitted.

Q8. Can we book one-way helicopter tickets for a single Dham?
Ans: Only Kedarnath allows one-way tickets. For Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Badrinath, a full Char Dham booking is required.

Q9. What is the refund policy for helicopter tickets?
Ans: Refund & cancellation policy for heli tours:
• Cancel 30 days before → 90% refund
• Cancel 20 days before → 50% refund
• Cancel 15 days before → 25% refund
• Less than 15 days before → No refund

Q10. Can senior citizens aged 70–80 years travel by helicopter?
Ans: Yes, provided they carry a valid fitness/medical certificate and their basic medications. The helicopter yatra is especially suitable for senior citizens as it avoids long mountain drives and treks, making it safe for people of all ages — unless someone has a serious medical condition.

Q11. Is the Char Dham Yatra by helicopter safe?
Ans: Yes, the Char Dham Yatra by helicopter is widely regarded as a safe and dependable way to complete this sacred pilgrimage. Helicopter services in Uttarakhand operate under the authority of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and UCADA, and follow clearly defined aviation safety standards. All helicopters are flown by pilots experienced in high-altitude and valley flying, and every flight is cleared only after a thorough weather assessment — in fog, strong winds, or low visibility, flights are delayed or cancelled to prioritise passenger safety.
